MilitaryOneClick, the premier online resource for active duty military, reservists, veterans and their families, announced today the launch of the Coalition for Veteran Owned Business. Created in partnership by First Data Corporation and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF), the Coalition’s mission is to support the success of businesses owned by veterans, service members and military families by connecting them with entrepreneurial education and training, small business resources and solutions, and commerce and supplier opportunities.

“I see the entrepreneurial spirit prevalent throughout the military community each and every day, and I am thrilled that the Coalition for Veteran Owned Business will leverage the resources of large corporations and organizations to support families as they launch and grow companies,” said Jennifer Pilcher, founder and CEO, MilitaryOneClick. “Veterans and military spouses have unique skills critical to success in today’s business environment; from perseverance and flexibility to technical abilities and international experience.”

As a Founding Affiliate Member, MilitaryOneClick will support Coalition efforts to connect business owners with resources and support through online platforms and in-person events. Veteran and military spouse small business owners with less than 50 employees are also eligible to list job openings on MilitaryOneClick’s Career Command Center at no cost.

“By creating and strengthening business-to-business commerce between veteran businesses and our corporate and industry partners, the coalition will serve as a catalyst for economic opportunity, employment, sales growth, business-to-business purchasing and collaboration, a strengthened client base, and mutually beneficial promotions,” said James Schmeling, IVMF managing director for programming.

The initiative, launched during the Small Business Administration’s National Small Business Week (May 4-8, 2015), was formally announced at a kick-off event held last night at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Coalition members include American Express, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Walmart and Sam’s Club, Walt Disney Company, USAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, among others.

More than 2.5 million small businesses in the U.S. are owned by veterans, generating $1.2 trillion in sales each year and providing jobs to more than 5.8 million Americans.
