NASSCO Gets $12.1 Million Modification for Local Ship Work

Shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO of San Diego has been awarded a modification of approximately $12.1 million, under a previously awarded contract for work on the USS Somerset.

A U.S. Defense Department statement said it is exercising an option for work that will include engineering, planning, management, labor and material placement, in support of fitting-out operations.

Work will be performed in San Diego, with completion expected by December 2014. The contract was procured by the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., which received four competitive proposals for the work.
